LES SORBIERS ESCOT

2020

Vineyard

20 hectars on clay soil on limestone and sand. The terroir is cold, which slows down the ripeness of the grapes and gives to them lot of aromas.

Despite a very uncertain climate all the year with a wet spring that required a  big presence in the vineyard, this vintage was saved thanks to a hot and dry summer prolonged by a beautiful Indian summer that enabled us to pick healthy and ripe grapes.

We started the harvest at the end of September quite unusual for our cold terroir.

This vintage with great potential, presents a beautiful dense color and a reasonable alcoholic degree balanced by a well preserved acidity. The winemaker’s good sense as well as the know-how of winemaking techniques has been the key to the success of this capricious vintage.

Grape variety

100 % Merlot

Planting density : between 6 600 and 8 000 vinestock per hectar.

The vineyard is very qualitative because of the age of the vines, which are in average 35 years old.

Vinification

The hand and mechanical harvest are sorted and destemmed. After a cold pre-fermentation extraction to increase the aromatic potential, the winemaking process is traditional. Our grapes have been vinified entirely in stainless steel tanks. The temperature is regulated so as not to harden the tannins. Our rose is made from Bleeding Method.

Tasting

The Sorbiers Escot 2020 shows a lightening salmon dress, a perfumed nose with redfruits flagrances and citrus notes like lemon, grapefruit and tangerine. On the palate, the wine is very refreshing, an ideal wine for a summer aperitif !
